
The founding director will provide the vision for the establishment and implementation of a new Center for Global Infectious Diseases administratively in the School of Public Health at UCLA and with broad cross campus collaboration. The Center‟s mission is to serve as a focal point in emerging infectious diseases: for research – from basic to applied; for service to governmental agencies; and for education, domestically and globally. Its mission also includes support for the development of tools and analyses to monitor new and existing infectious diseases.
The founding director of the Center will assure the remarkable progress in a continuing roll out of the Global Bio Lab, housed within the Center, establish its purposes, products and financial structure, manage its effective operation and assure its positioning as a global resource for identifying and tracking infectious diseases with a goal of preventing and controlling future epidemics and pandemics.
The founding director will serve as the public voice of the Center, positioning the school and the Center as a highly visible global public health resource and describing its accomplishments and possibilities. The founding director will also serve as leader and assembler of human, scientific and financial resources, and as the principal leader of financial resource development, including externally funded research and private support, whether from individuals, foundations or corporate entities.
The founding director of the Center for Global Infectious Diseases will report to the dean of the School of Public Health.
