Ways To Give

Donations to the School of Public Health Dean’s Fund provide immediate funds for the Dean to allocate toward the School’s priorities.  These gifts give the School the flexibility to fund new initiatives, enhance student life, and build academic programs.  At a time when state support provides just 15% of the School’s operating budget, annual gifts—both large and small, are essential to maintaining the School’s quality.

Cash Or Checks

Gifts given in cash or by check allow you to claim an income tax charitable deduction for the full value of your gift.

Giving Online

Giving online is simple, fast and has an immediate impact -- and you can direct your gift to your special area of interest.  You can arrange either for a one-time charge/debit, or a series of charges/debits over a period of time.  Cards accepted include VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.  To make a gift using our secure online form, please click HERE.
Gift Of Securities

Appreciated stocks and bonds are, next to cash, the most popular assets donated to the UCLA School of Public Health by alumni and friends.  Securities can be transferred directly from your brokerage account to the University’s account. 

 

Consider these advantages of giving securities:

  • If you file an itemized return, you are entitled to a federal income-tax charitable deduction.  Many state income tax laws also allow for a charitable deduction.
  • If the donated items have been held long-term (12 months or longer), you may claim a deduction for their full fair-market value.
  • When appreciated securities are donated, you avoid paying tax on the capital gain.

 

Note: Always discuss donations with your tax consultant to maximize your benefits.  You can notify us of your intention to transfer the shares by contacting our office at 310.825.6464.

Matching Gifts

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs for charitable contributions made to higher education by their employees.  Some companies even match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.  Before making your contribution, find out if your organization will match your gift by checking our database of matching gift companies.  You receive full credit for your matching gifts for the purpose of recognition and benefits.  For receipting and tax reasons, the matched portion of the gift must be recorded on the corporation’s record.
Wire Transfer

Wire transfers are most commonly used for gifts made from outside the United States.  Banks provide minimal information with wire transfers, so please notify the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs at 310.825.6464 of your gift in advance to ensure it is processed correctly.  Complete and follow the instructions on the Wire Transfer Instruction Form.  For Foundation funds, click HERE.  For Regental funds, click HERE.

Memorial & Tribute Gifts

Your gift for a family member, friend, professor or other special person can be directed to a specific department or center.
