NUTRITION: A project by the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and USC in which several East Los Angeles corner stores are being converted into healthier-food establishments was highlighted March 17th by the Los Angeles Times. Michael Prelip, professor of community health sciences at the Fielding School of Public Health, was quoted. Alex Ortega, professor of health services at the Fielding School of Public Health, also appeared March 20th on KCRW 89.3 FM’s “Which Way, L.A.?” to discuss corner store conversions.

HEALTH INSURANCE: A story by New American Media on March 15th cited findings from UCLA’s California Health Interview Survey, a comprehensive bienniel study of the health and well-being of the state's residents conducted by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research in the Fielding School of Public Health, showing that at least 404,000 of the state’s eligible children are not taking advantage of public health insurance programs for low-income children.
