Greetings from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health!  I want to once again extend a warm welcome and provide you with some information that will be helpful for your transition into the School and the UCLA graduate community. You will be receiving periodic emails from the Dean’s Office, Graduate Division, your departmental Student Affairs Officer and a host of others. Please make sure you review each thoroughly and mark your calendars and to-do lists appropriately.

The first important date to mark on your calendar is Friday, September 16th. This date marks the UCLA Graduate Division Orientation for all new graduate students to UCLA. The sessions will provide a wealth of information regarding resources and services available to you as graduate students. The Graduate Division also publishes an outstanding orientation guide that can be found at http://www.gdnet.UCLA.edu/orientation.html. It provides links to detailed information regarding orientation schedules, housing, academic calendars and schedules of classes, campus resources such as the libraries and recreation, student services and financial support opportunities. I really encourage you to attend all the events sponsored by the Graduate Division and to start making connections across the academic disciplines.

The next important date to mark on your calendar is Monday, September 19th. This date marks the School of Public Health Orientation for all new students to the School. The morning sessions are for both masters and doctoral students and will provide you with an opportunity to meet the School’s leadership team and to gain valuable information regarding resources provided to you by the SPH. The luncheon and afternoon sessions will be broken into masters/doctoral events as well as additional departmental meetings. The afternoon sessions will focus on the “nuts and bolts” of the departments and the requirements for your academic studies.

At this point, the last date to mark on your calendar is Thursday, September 22rd. This date marks the day that instruction begins. For a link to the Academic and Administrative.

Many of you will be moving to the southern California area to begin your studies I am sure a major concern is finding available housing. The Community Housing Office provides non-university owned rental listings and rental resources to the entire UCLA community. The link to this valuable resource is www.cho.UCLA.edu.
