Are you an undergraduate at UCLA? Are you interested in gaining a broader understanding of the public health field, the determinants of disease and the social factors that affect health? Since 2003 the UCLA School of Public Health has offered a Minor designed for students who wish to learn more about core public health functions, including the assessment and monitoring of the health of communities and populations at risk, to identify health problems and priorities, the formulation of public policies designed to solve identified local and national health problems and priorities, the assurance that all populations have access to appropriate and cost-effective care, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of that care. This popular program offers an overview of the field along with introductory courses in each of the public health disciplines: Biostatistics, Community Health Sciences, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology and Health Services and an elective course. All courses for the Minor must be taken in the School of Public Health for a letter grade, with a minimum grade of C in each course, and an overall grade-point average of 2.0 or better. Successful completion of the Minor is indicated on the transcript and diploma.
