Commencement Schedule and Program
4:00pm – 4:30pm
All Graduates report to Royce Hall for check-in. Please follow the FSPH signs and check-in no later than 4:30pm.
Faculty members arrive for check-in.
Royce Hall opens for the public. All graduates get ready for the processional formation.
Graduation Ceremony at Royce Hall for ticketed guests.
7:00pm – 7:30pm
Reception at the Royce Hall Quad (in front of Royce Hall).
FSPH Graduates Instructions
Upon receiving your commencement response card, please remember to return it to the Student Affairs Office no later than Friday May 17th. Graduates who do not respond by Friday May 7th will forfeit their tickets. Graduates will receive an email from Arlecia Powell-Halley regarding the pick-up of tickets. FSPH will not mail the tickets.
The second distribution of any remaining tickets will take place on Thursday, June 6th 2019 at 9am in the Student Affairs Office, CHS A1-269, on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are not able to come in person, you may give someone else a written permission letter to pick up the additional tickets for you. Please contact Arlecia Powell-Halley if you have any questions.
Additional Information for Doctoral Candidates
All doctoral students wishing to participate in the FSPH 2019 Commencement on June 14th must have defended and filed prior to June 3rd, 2019, which is the Dissertation Filing Deadline for Spring 2019.
Doctoral Candidates are also invited to participate in the UCLA Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, date TBD.

Seating and Processional
Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please advise your guests that they may not reserve seats. Guests must be seated by 5:30pm. All guest require a ticket to enter Royce Hall. The graduating students will have tickets for their guests (see FSPH Graduates Instructions above).
Ushers will be available at Royce Hall to assist guests in need of wheelchair-accessible seating.
Please keep in mind that security measures will be taken to ensure that no food or beverages are brought into Royce Hall.
Balloons, selfie sticks and camera sticks will not be allowed so that the audience view is not obstructed.
Graduates will not be permitted to escort their guests into Royce Hall. All graduates must check-in no later than 4:30pm, and will remain in the graduates' check-in area until processional formation.
All Commencement venues are ADA Compliant and wheelchair seating is available at all Commencement venues.
Royce Hall has wheelchair seating in the rear of the auditorium.

The use of handheld cameras and video cameras is permitted, however please be courteous to your fellow audience members. For fire and life safety reasons, tripods and self-sticks are not allowed during the ceremony, and may not be set up in aisles, doorways, walkways or other areas.
There will be 2 photographers present:
1) An FSPH photographer will take pictures during commencement and the reception which will become available to our graduates free of charge.
2) A UCLA's photographer from GRAD Images will be taking photographs of all graduates during commencement. GRAD Images will email graduates a proof, after which graduates can decide to purchase their pictures or not.
Caps and Gowns
Ordering Caps & Gowns: MS and MPH Students
It is required that each graduate wear a cap and gown, for participation in the FSPH Graduation Ceremony. Graduates can rent their academic apparel and order announcements from Graduation, Etc. located on Level A at Ackerman, M-F, opened from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or through their website: Graduation, Etc.

Doctoral students are required to wear a cap and gowns, and have the option to rent or purchase their gowns. Graduates can rent their academic apparel and order announcements from Graduation, Etc. located on Level A at Ackerman, M-F, opened from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., or through their website: Graduation, Etc.
Returning Gowns & Hoods
Regalia must be returned to Graduation, Etc. after the ceremony. There will be stations for returning caps and gowns at Royce Hall, and if you choose to keep your regalia a little longer (for family photo sessions, etc.) you must return them to Graduation, Etc. in Ackerman Union. Failure to return gowns by 5 p.m. on June 21 will cause a hold to be placed on your records and diploma in additional to a late fee.
Conferring of Degrees
The response card will be used to announce your name as you cross the stage, and as a way for Grad Images to send you their photo proofs a few weeks after the ceremony.
Recognition of Candidates
MS and MPH Candidates
After processional formation, Student Affairs Officers will guide all graduates to their seats and will give instruction on when to proceed to the stage. Your name will be announced as you walk towards center stage.
As you cross the stage, your department Chair will be there to shake your hand, and take a photo with you and the Dean. Please pause briefly for another photograph, descend down the staircase and return to your seat.
Each doctoral candidate will be hooded on the stage. The Chair of your department will call you to the front of the stage, while reading the title of your dissertation. Your advisor will hood you. Pause for a handshake and photo with the Dean and your advisor. After the photos are taken, please return to your seat.
Diplomas are produced by the UCLA Office of the Registrar. The name that is reflected in your official university record (not your preferred name) will appear on your diploma. If you would like a different name to appear on your diploma, please complete the Name Change or Correction form and return it to 1113 Murphy Hall no later than the last day in your degree-expected term in order to be reflected on your diploma.
The Registrar’s office will mail out diploma information approximately six weeks at the end of your degree term (Winter graduates will receive their information in June; Spring graduates will receive their information in August).
Diplomas can be picked up in person at the Registrar’s office approximately three months after you graduate (Winter graduates can pick up their diploma in June; Spring graduates can pick up their diploma in September/October)

UCLA Commencement Specific Disability Resources
If you are a graduating UCLA student and would like to inquire about the services available to you for Commencement, please contact the Center for Accessible Education (CAE) to discuss your needs and make your request.
In the absence of a ramp or permanent lift, the University has a portable wheelchair lift to assist students needing access to a stage for graduation. Please contact the CAE to learn more.
Due to the size of the campus and the possibility of attending numerous events, guests may want to consider using a wheelchair during commencement activities.
Horton & Converse, about a mile from campus, has wheelchairs available for rent: 11600 Wilshire Blvd. (at Federal Ave.), 310 478-0801 www.hortonandconverse.com

If you are a graduating student that requires sign language or captioning interpretation at your ceremony, please contact the Center for Accessible Education at the numbers below. If you are coming to Commencement as a guest/family member of a graduate and require interpretation services, you will need to contact the specific department or school that is presenting the ceremony you are attending to request this service. Please be aware that this will be a very busy day at the campus, so anticipate a lot of traffic and make sure to arrive well in advance.
All parking lots and structures on the UCLA campus will be open and staffed throughout Commencement Weekend. Parking is $12 per permit. Oversized vehicle parking is available at Lot 36 at the corner of Wilshire and Veteran Boulevards. Pre-paid parking permits may also be purchased in advance either from the UCLA Central Ticket Office (CTO)
or from UCLA Parking Services

to find the closest parking structure or lot to the event you are attending. We recommend parking in Lots 2 and 3, the closest lots to the ceremony. Parking permits may be purchased on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Special Parking Needs - Disabled and Mobility Impaired ONLY
Accessible parking is available for disabled and elderly persons near most venues in many parking structures and lots.
All vehicles must have a UCLA parking permit and, if parking in areas reserved for disabled or elderly persons either a DMV handicapped plate or placard or a UCLA Office for Students with Disabilities-issued identification card.
Parking permits, which cost $12, are available through Transportation & Parking Services and the UCLA Central Ticket Office prior to Commencement Weekend and at Parking/Information Booths on the day of Commencement. The parking fee for vehicles displaying any state-issued handicap plate or placard is $6/day.
The Office for Students with Disabilities will begin distribution of Parking Identification cards in May. Please call (310) 825-1501 or stop by the office at A-255 Murphy Hall.
Drop-off spots may be even more accessible and much closer to many of the venues. Vehicles cannot park at drop-off spots longer than required to load or unload passengers. The Royce Quad drop off spot is off Dickson Plaza on Portola Drive by the flagpole.
All Commencement venues are ADA-Compliant and wheelchair seating is available at all Commencement venues.
To help you avoid traffic congestion in the busy Westwood area, we would like to offer the following suggestions:
405 (San Diego) Freewa Avoid using the Sunset Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard on-ramps to the 405 (San Diego) Freeway. Instead, travel south from the campus using Westwood Boulevard, Hilgard Avenue (to Westwood Boulevard), Gayley Avenue or Veteran Avenue to Santa Monica Boulevard, turn right (westbound) and enter the 405 from Santa Monica Boulevard.
10 (Santa Monica) Freeway: Take Sunset or Wilshire Boulevard EAST from the campus, turn right (southbound) on Beverly Glen, right again (westbound) at Olympic Boulevard, then left (southbound) on Overland Avenue. Enter the 10 Freeway on Overland Avenue.
