EPI Seminar Series: "Dr. Gretchen Bandoli - 9 months matter: How we classify exposures in pregnancy, and why this matters"

There is arguably no period of time as important as gestation for ensuring that exposure is accurately captured. We will discuss why this is so important, look at ways in which exposure is typically defined, and discuss the use of longitudinal cluster analysis in perinatal epidemiology.

More than half of the world population lives in urban areas. Urban and transport policies determine major environmental exposures such as air pollution, traffic noise, physical activity, traffic incidents, or green spaces. Local and regional authorities are proposing innovative solutions to improve urban mobility, mitigate climate change, and reduce energy dependency. However, there is a lack of evidence on how specific urban design and transport policies impact public health.

Robert M. Kaplan has served as Chief Science Officer at the US Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) and Associate Director of the National Institutes of Health, where he led the behavioral and social sciences programs. He is also a Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Health Services and Medicine at UCLA, where he led the UCLA/RAND AHRQ health services training program and the UCLA/RAND CDC Prevention Research Center. He was Chair of the Department of Health Services from 2004 to 2009.
