Appropriate nurse staffing in hospitals has been a contentious issue because nurses are the single largest cost for hospitals and the levels needed to keep patients safe are hard to determine. In this webinar, Jack Needleman reviews his recent research on staffing and mortality and discusses the implications for keeping patients safe.

Dr. Needleman is a Professor in the Department of Health Services. His research on the impact of nurse staffing and nurses' working conditions on patient outcomes in hospitals received the first AcademyHealth Health Services Research (HSR) Impact Award.

Continuing the Conversation webinars feature UCLA Fielding School of Public Health faculty discussing the most critical issues in public health.
