Scores for Redistricting Plans to Promote Effective Governance and Improve Public Health
Wednesday, October 15, Noon - 1:00pm PDT
Thomas Belin, PhD
Professor
Department of Biostatistics
UCLA Fielding School of Public Health
A functioning political system is crucial to success in public health. Yet evidence in the United States suggests a clear association between population density and partisan preference in elections which leads to more gridlocked governance. In this webinar, Dr. Thomas Belin will discuss his research on redistricting and its impact on public health. Together with fellow researchers at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Dr. Belin has developed a tool that provides a one-number summary for proposed redistricting plans which could serve as a helpful check on political polarization and lead to more effective governance and public health.
