An Institute of Medicine committee, chaired by Patricia Ganz, Professor at UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health, says urgent changes are needed to improve cancer care as baby boomers age and new therapies arise.
The report attributes the crisis to the growing demand for cancer care among the aging baby boom generation, rapidly rising costs, a shrinking pool of cancer care professionals and dramatic changes in cancer therapies over the last decade that sometimes make it difficult to determine which patients should receive what treatment.
