In the United States, there are more than half a million people experiencing homelessness, more than 150,000 of them are in California. Poor health can lead to homelessness and homelessness creates new, and exacerbates existing, health problems. How can public health play a role in reducing the burden of homelessness on health?
On February 16, 2022, the UCLA Fielding School hosted a moderated panel of experts who provided a broad view of the population at risk and the potential roles of medicine, housing, and a combination of the two. These experts discussed street medicine, mobile clinics, and housing-first initiatives.
