Work as a Social Determinant of Health

Featuring:
Linda Delp, PhD, MPH, UCLA-LOSH (Labor Occupational Safety & Health Program)

Americans are spending more and more time at work, but we often ignore the impact of working conditions on our health. Whether it's the strain of prolonged computer use or pesticide poisoning among food-workers, the work we do impacts our health on many levels. Dr. Linda Delp will discuss working conditions as a social determinant of health and analyze health disparities using case studies of key working populations. Focusing on women, immigrant workers and those in low wage jobs, she will describe the changing nature of work and its impact on eroding standards of worker health. She will also offer strategies for improving these conditions through worker organizing, advocacy and public health policy initiatives.
