A UCLA professor's call to root out racism in research

KPCC spoke with Chandra Ford, associate professor of community health sciences and director of the Center for the Study of Racism, Social Justice & Health at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, about how assumptions about race can influence research.

Chandra Ford, director of the newly-founded Center for the Study of Racism, Social Justice & Health at the University of California, Los Angeles, has countless examples of how racism influences what issues get studied, how subjects are perceived and the questions that are explored. 

In the latest issue of the biomedical journal Ethnicity & Disease, she calls out the public health field and suggests tools researchers can use to keep themselves in check.
