Monday, April 15, 2019

Dr. Sudipto Banerjee, professor and chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been selected as the 2019 George W. Snedecor Awardee. The award will be presented to Dr. Banerjee by the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings – the largest gathering of statisticians held in North America – on July 31 in Denver, CO.

The George W. Snedecor Award, established in 1976 and presented biennially by COPSS, honors an individual who has been instrumental in the development of statistical theory in biometry and is one of the highest recognitions for a significant contribution in the statistical sciences. Dr. Banerjee will be recognized for his groundbreaking and fundamental work on Bayesian hierarchical modeling and the analysis of large spatial datasets, his significant contributions to the mapping of disease incidence in space and time, and the analysis of environmental exposures.
