This is the 4th edition of the widely used textbook edited by Dr. Gerald Kominski. It discusses the key topics of health care policy and management, and thoroughly elaborates on the impact of the Affordable Care Act. This edition also presents new chapters on the social determinants of health, improving the safety net, and expanded coverage of various sectors of health such as disease management, mental health, and care for the homeless. 

Dr. Kominski is a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and the Director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. His research encompasses health economics, health policy, health insurance, and health care reform. All royalties from the book return to the Department of Health Policy and Management.
