Kathy Silva is the Program Coordinator of the UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program, funded by the CDC Office of Minority Health and Health Equity. Prior to joining FSPH, she was part of a Federally Qualified Health Center’s Quality Improvement team, coordinating a research project in collaboration with UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and Center for Health Equity in order to address cancer screening disparities among vulnerable populations. Her background includes experiences in community organizing, health services research, and student programming at both the high school and undergraduate levels.   Kathy is a first-generation college student and an alumna of Wellesley College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies before returning to her hometown in Los Angeles.  She is grateful for being able to merge her experiences in public health with her passion of supporting students as they navigate their educational and professional journeys. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, exploring coffee shops, and taking advantage of Southern California beaches year-round.
