Alumni

A LIFE-LONG CONNECTION

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health has a worldwide network of alumni that number over 9,000.  Our two alumni associations, the Public Health Alumni Association (PHAA) and the Health Services Alumni Association (HSAA), exist to build and strengthen personal and professional relationships among alumni and students and to be an indispensable partner to the School of Public Health.

The PHAA and HSAA provide many opportunities to stay connected and give back to the School, including networking events, mentoring programs and fundraising and fellowship support. Many graduates of the School participate in organizing events, speaking at department and school-wide presentations, and serving as advocates for public health programs.

We appreciate your support and look forward to helping you maintain ties with the UCLA School of Public Health throughout your life.

Graduates are encouraged to update their alumni profile information to keep up with the latest news and events from the School and department.

From our students and alumni

“The education and training I received from our school cost much more than my tuition.  It provided the beginning of a most rewarding 35 years of community services in Los Angeles, California, the United States and in many foreign countries.  There is truly a “joy in giving.”

Dr. Ray Goodman
MPH ’72 Emeritus Director, Medical Reserve Corp

“Remaining involved with the UCLA SPH gives me access to the best minds in public health.  My colleagues and clients continuously benefit in some way from the lessons that I learn. Plus as a undergraduate and graduate school alum and a “double-die-hard Bruin” - I love being able to give something back to my alma mater.”

Deborah Kazenelson Deane
MS ‘97 Executive Vice President, Edelman Communications

“For me, it's about supporting the students and assisting in their current and future journey through graduate school and an eventual career in health care. I think it's critical to give back to the UCLA Public Health community and provide education, information, and guidance to those in the midst of professional growth and personal transition toward being future contributors leading to improved service and quality of health outcomes in our complex delivery system.

Ross Miller
MPH ’98 Healthcare Executive, Cerner Life Sciences

“I think about the students and how I was in their shoes not too long ago.  I hope my small contributions to the school can make their experience at SPH as memorable and worthwhile as mine.”

Maral Farsi
MPH ’05 Senior Policy Analyst, California Health Plans

“Being engaged in the alumni association continues my professional association with other alumni and gives me the opportunity to give back to the School that launched my career. I am fortunate to be close enough to offer my services as a Director on the Health Services Alumni Board, participate and develop alumni outreach programs, and be involved in the curriculum advisory council. I am also pleased to be able to contribute financially to the School to help it achieve its academic, community education and research goals.”

Avram Kaplan
MPH ’72

“We give to UCLA because it is the right thing to do.  We understand the financial needs of UCLA and the School of Public Health.  What was once a state supported school is now a state assisted school.  I have been an active participant at both the school and the university, first because I was asked and second because it has proven beneficial for all concerned.”

Ira Alpert
MSPH ’66

“I continue to be involved with the UCLA School of Public Health to give back to the students and foster new relationships with future professionals.”

Tonya Dowd
MPH ’09

“Attending UCLA’s School of Public Health exceeded my expectations and launched my career to new horizons.”

Vicki Cuevas- Sobschak
