In response to the escalating health emergency that is already inflicting substantial damage on people in Southern California and around the world, the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health has created the UCLA Center for Healthy Climate Solutions.

A team that includes UCLA Fielding School of Public Health professor James Macinko is moving forward in its study of why Americans buy firearms with the support of a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

A team led by Ninez Ponce, Fielding School professor and director of FSPH's Center for Health Policy Research, and Dr. Michael Rodriguez, professor of community health sciences at FSPH, has received a $596,000 grant from the National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research to address data gaps about gun use and improve firearms policies.

Despite the investments in research and the growing body of empirical literature on a range of preparedness and response capabilities and functions, there has been no national-level, comprehensive review and grading of evidence for public health emergency preparedness and response practices comparable to those utilized in medicine and other public health fields.
