Alan Tomines

Dr. Alan Tomines is the Director of the Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) program and Medical Director for the Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care (HCPCFC) for the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health. He is responsible for ensuring that Medi-Cal eligible and low-income children and youth in Los Angeles County, including children in foster care, receive complete health assessments and specialty care follow-up per Medicaid Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) standards. 

Dr. Tomines has previously served as the Director of Clinical and Public Health Informatics for the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health, and as the Assistant Chief, Medical Informatics for the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services. Dr. Tomines continues to practice pediatrics and oversees resident physicians as faculty in the Division of General Pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. 

Dr. Tomines completed his undergraduate studies in cybernetics and psychobiology at UCLA, medical school at the State University of New York at Brooklyn, and residency in Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine. After private practice as a general pediatrician, he completed a fellowship in public health informatics in the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and served as the Senior Public Health Informatics Fellow for the Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) at CDC. 

Dr. Tomines is board-certified in both pediatrics and clinical informatics. His areas of research interest span both clinical and public health informatics domains, including: health information exchange, data standardization, human-computer interaction and data visualization, and child health information systems.
