Claire Chaumont

Claire Chaumont, DrPH, MSc, MS, is a global public health scholar, strategist and educator whose work focuses on translating policy and strategy into meaningful, measurable impact. Trained in political science and public health, she brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the study of health systems, global health governance and the implementation of large-scale institutional and policy reforms. A Fulbright Scholar educated at Harvard University, Sciences Po Paris, the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, she has advised governments, NGOs and multilateral organizations across more than twenty countries on health policy, strategic planning, financing and evidence-informed decision-making.

Currently serving as Special Advisor to UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk and a faculty member in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Dr. Chaumont leads the university’s Strategy Execution Team, which works across campus to translate the One UCLA strategic plan into action through institutional alignment, cross-campus collaboration and a sustained focus on results. Previously, at the World Health Organization, she helped advance the organization's Triple Billion strategy, developing new approaches to strengthen accountability, implementation and country-level impact. Her scholarly interests lie at the intersection of health systems strengthening, global governance and strategic management, with a particular focus on how institutions translate evidence and ambitious policy goals into effective action. She has taught, conducted research and published on these topics and is the co-author of Understanding Public Health with Julio Frenk and Suerie Moon.
