Julian Brunner
Julian Brunner, PhD, MPH, is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He is a core investigator in the Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation Implementation and Policy at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, where he leads evaluations of health information technology and clinical innovations.
His research focuses on the implementation, governance, and impact of digital tools within healthcare systems, with a focus on workforce impacts of new technologies. He uses mixed methods including qualitative research, surveys, and electronic health record data, partnering with health system leaders to conduct studies that shape practice. Dr. Brunner oversees multiple projects evaluating AI-based tools to assist clinicians, and projects studying the VA’s transition from a homegrown, federated electronic health record to a standardized commercial system.
Dr. Brunner’s career in health services research includes previous roles in patient-centered outcomes research at Baltimore’s Center for Medical Technology Policy, and at the NYC Department of Health.
