Marvin Crespin-Gamez
Marvin Crespin-Gamez is a former United States diplomat and health officer who served in the Foreign Service of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for over eight years. Most recently, Marvin held the position as Deputy Director for the Regional Migration and Health Office in Peru where he oversaw the launching of USAID’s bilateral health portfolio designed to improve nationwide pandemic preparedness, and supported the regional socio-economic integration of over 2.5 million Venezuelan migrants seeking to settle in Ecuador, Brazil, and Ecuador. He has also held leadership roles in USAID’s operating units in Bangladesh and Guatemala. Throughout all his diplomatic tours, he has spearheaded the U.S Government’s global health priorities by cultivating relationships with multilateral partners and overseeing programs in health systems strengthening, global health security, HIV, WASH, tuberculosis, family planning, nutrition, among other public health areas.
Marvin was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He obtained his BA in Latin American Studies from the University of California at Riverside and his MPH with a concentration in Global Health from UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health. He also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal (2012-2014), and has worked with local public health NGOs across California. Marvin is fluent in Spanish and advanced in Nepali.
He is thrilled to join UCLA Fielding School of Public Health as the Director of the Office of Public Health Practice, and is looking forward to working with all students, faculty, and staff.
