Mia Hashibe

Mia Hashibe, PhD, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Japanese at UCLA and her MPH and PhD in Epidemiology degrees from the UCLA School of Public Health. After obtaining her PhD, she held a postdoctoral fellow and scientist position at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France. She is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and a Professor in the Division of Public Health, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Utah School of Medicine and a Huntsman Cancer Institute investigator.

Dr. Hashibe’s research interests are on cancer survivorship, health disparities and molecular cancer epidemiology. She has led projects within the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) Consortium on the lifestyle and genetic factors of head and neck cancer. She also completed a head and neck cancer case-control study in East Asia, and a head and neck and lung cancer case-control study in Nepal. Her current NCI funded grants include a rural cancer survivors cohort, identifying cancer recurrences with novel data linkages, and a junior faculty training grant on leadership, mentorship and health disparities in cancer research.
