Yusuke Tsugawa
Yusuke Tsugawa, MD, MPH, PhD, is Professor of Medicine and Health Policy & Management at UCLA and holds the Albert F. Parlow-David H. Solomon Chair for the UCLA Program on Aging. He is Director of the UCLA Department of Medicine Data Core and Associate Director of the UCLA Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies. Dr. Tsugawa is an expert in "causal AI," an approach that combines rigorous causal inference methods with artificial intelligence to advance the assessment of personalized treatment effects. His research also examines how the quality and cost of care vary across individual physicians, and what drives that variation. Before joining UCLA, Tsugawa was a Health Specialist at the World Bank. He received his MD from Tohoku University School of Medicine in Japan, his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health, and his PhD in Health Policy (Statistics) from Harvard University.
