Yusuke Tsugawa
Dr. Yusuke Tsugawa, MD, MPH, PhD is Associate Professor of Medicine and Health Policy and Management at UCLA, and the Founding Director of the UCLA Department of Medicine Statistics Core (DOMStat) Data Core. Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA, he was a health specialist at the World Bank group and a research fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Tsugawa received his PhD in Health Policy from Harvard University with a concentration in statistics, his MPH from Harvard School of Public Health, and his MD from Tohoku University School of Medicine in Japan. His research focuses on the variation in quality, disparity, and costs of care across individual physicians and its determinants. Dr. Tsugawa's research has been published in leading medical and health policy journals including JAMA, Lancet, BMJ, JAMA Internal Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and PNAS. The Altmetric selected Dr. Tsugawa's paper comparing the quality of care between male and female physicians as the 3rd most widely-read article in 2017 (https://www.altmetric.com/top100/2017). Dr. Tsugawa's research has also been featured in several media outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and National Public Radio.
