Ana Mascareñas, MPH

Ana Mascareñas serves as the inaugural Senior Advisor for Environmental Justice to Admiral Rachel Levine, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Assistant Secretary for Health. Throughout her career, Ana has been a tireless advocate for equity and justice in marginalized communities, spanning government roles, academia, and non-profit organizations. From 2015 to 2021, she served as the first Assistant Director for Environmental Justice at the California Environmental Protection Agency's Department of Toxic Substances Control. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2013, she served as Membership Coordinator and later as Policy and Communications Director at Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles. Ana graduated from Brown University with bachelor's degrees in Human Biology and Sociology and earned her MPH in Environmental Health Sciences from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health in 2015. Her commitment to social justice is deeply rooted in her family history, including her ancestors who were California farmworkers, and her legacy as the proud daughter of public school educators.
