As executive vice president of health plan operations for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Southam has national responsibility for marketing, sales, product development and administrative services. Before joining Kaiser in 2001, he served as CEO of Health Systems Design and CEO of two California health plans, HealthNet and CareAmerica. Southam serves on the National Commission on Prevention Priorities and was a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on the Quality of Health Care in America, contributing to the widely cited publications To Err is Human and Crossing the Quality Chasm, on patient safety and how to improve the quality of U.S. health care.
