CNN | “Three dead after suspected hantavirus outbreak on cruise ship”

CNN interviewed Dr. Anne Rimoin, professor in the Department of Epidemiology, about the dangers of hantavirus, including public health experts’ investigation of a current incident aboard a cruise ship in the South Atlantic where three people have died.

 

“What’s going to happen now is they are going to first evacuate those people who have medical needs, and once that happens and there is some understanding of  what the virus is, and how transmission is, they’ll be able to move these people off the ship and into quarantine,” Rimoin said. “This is going to be a very classic outbreak investigation; (because) we we know who’s been on this ship and where people have been, they’ll certainly be able to go back and look at the exposure of those who have been affected."
