Fielding Notes | Dean's Corner 10.29.26
Research, implementation, impact. Transparency, democracy, policy change.
Policy is often of tremendous consequence to our health — clean water, clean air, access to quality healthcare and education, workplace protections, emergency preparedness, and so much more. Successful efforts to overcome barriers to health and wellness often involve communities taking action and enactment of policy change.
Policy provides shape to the conditions that influence our health. And transparency is foundational in governance, as in public health; it builds trust. When lack of trust exists, it has cascading consequences for our health. In public health, it is our responsibility to share accurate, timely, and responsible information and to dispel misinformation and disinformation. Access to facts matters.
When we talk about protecting tomorrow today, we are both confronting our past and preparing for our future. We are practicing True Bruin Values and our UCLA mission. We are committed to preparing for what is to come by using our knowledge to contribute to research, programs, and policies that can help to build a healthier and more equitable society for many generations to come.
