" ... fear about the consequences of exposure to the remains of the smoke and ash cloud is shared by Dr. David Eisenman, director of the UCLA Center for Public Health and Disasters, who is dedicated to studying the impact of global climate change on people's health:
'We are finding that the ashes and soot on the soil have high levels of heavy metals and other toxic and even carcinogenic substances. The smoke enters the furniture, the walls, the carpets and then comes out little by little. Many times it cannot be smelled, but it contains substances such as gasoline, formaldehyde and other toxic substances,' Eisenman explains."
