The Los Angeles Daily News quoted Dr. Kayla de la Haye, professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, about Americans' diets, including what are healthy amounts of protein.

“One in 10 Americans are eating enough fruits and veggies, but the very vast majority of us are not eating enough fruits and veggies,” she said. “The same is not true of protein. Our protein intake is actually one of the highest in the world.

“The thing we know the most about healthy eating is it’s about getting a good variety of all the healthy foods and nutrients that we need. It’s healthy fats, proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals — trying to get all those things. If we just focus on one, the risk is that we’re missing out on some of these other essential nutrients that our bodies need to function and grow.”
