Dr. Carol Mangione, professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, was interviewed by NPR about the work of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which has convened voluntary, independent medical experts to review evidence and make recommendations for primary care physicians since 1984.

Since the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010, its recommendations have been tied to services and medicines that most health insurers must cover without co-pays.

"I hope that Americans continue to get the health dividends from screening for colon cancer, starting a statin if you're high risk, getting screened for depression if you're postpartum," Mangione said. "It would be a loss to not have easily accessible, tailored recommendations for someone's age, their background risk, to make sure they get to have the best health possible in their lives."
