PBS interviewed Dr. Ninez Ponce, professor and chair in the Department of Health Policy and Management and director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, about food insecurity and climate change in California.

“San Luis Obispo and Ventura are Central Coast counties; those two counties have a large agricultural industry, but actually food insecurity in those two counties is higher than the state average - 4.7% for the state,” said Dr. Ninez Ponce, of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. “Almost 5% are going to bed hungry; we’re slightly higher than the rest of the U.S., which is kind of shocking because we are purportedly a wealthy state.”
