In July 2010, Long became president and CEO of Blue Shield of California Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Blue Shield of California. He previously held leadership roles at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and The California Endowment. Long has extensive experience working on health policy issues at the state, national and global levels. Among his previous positions, he has served as executive director of the Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley in San Jose, CA, and as a legislative analyst for the National Progressive Primary Health Care Network in Cape Town, South Africa, during the country’s transition to democracy.
