A team of UCLA researchers has been awarded $20,993,333 by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to conduct the Aliso Canyon Disaster Health Research Study.
Dr. Yifang Zhu serves as professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. She graduated from Tsinghua University in 1997 and received her Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from UCLA in 2003. Her research interest is primarily in the field of air pollution, climate change, environmental exposure assessment, and aerosol science and technology.

Professor Faghri joined UCLA Department of Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Connecticut, where she was a Professor in the Department of Allied Health Sciences and Director of the Center for Environmental Health and Health Promotion. She had joint appointments as professor of Biomedical Engineering, School of Engineering, and professor of Public Health, School of Medicine.

Dr. Vergara developed her interest in occupational and environmental epidemiology at UCLA. Prior to graduate school, she worked over ten years in analytical chemistry laboratories within private industry. She draws from over ten years of epidemiologic experience focused on rare neurodegenerative diseases and childhood cancers, she has a keen interest in exposure assessment and epidemiologic methods within the context of occupational and environmental epidemiology studies.

Professor of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) and a faculty member of the UCLA Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), Dr. Shane Que Hee came to the Department in 1989 from the University of Cincinnati where he had been Assistant and Associate Professor since 1978. As of 2023, he had 238 peer-reviewed publications including 138 in peer-reviewed journals, 88 book chapters, 4 books, six EPA criteria documents,153 national & international meeting presentations, and 66 keynote addresses at international and national meetings.

Dr. Rachael M. Jones, PhD, CIH is a professor in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health Department of Environmental Health Sciences. Dr. Jones is an exposure scientist and industrial hygienist, with experience with exposure modeling, simulation studies and experiments, and field sampling. Dr. Jones' work has centered on the assessment and control of workplace exposures to infectious agents, especially respiratory viruses. More recently, Dr. Jones begun exploring the impact of power and (in)equity on occupational health and safety. Dr.

Dr. Li joined UCLA in 2019. He shares a position between the Fielding School of Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences Department and the School of Nursing, with a joint-appointment in the Fielding School of Public Health, Epidemiology Department. Before his appointment at UCLA, Dr. Li had been working in China and Germany with extensive experience on occupational health. He is an active member of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) Scientific Committees on Cardiology in Occupational Health, and on Work Organisation and Psychosocial Factors.

Dr. Krause is the Director of the NIOSH Southern California Education and Research Center and Professor Emeriti in Environmental Health Sciences at UCLA. Before his appointment at UCLA, Dr. Krause has been associate professor in residence in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine of the Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. He received his medical degree and a doctoral degree in orthopedic medicine from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and a doctoral degree in epidemiology from the University of California Berkeley.

Hamid Arabzadeh, has two graduate degrees in Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Sciences from McGill University. He is the founding Principal of HRA Environmental Consultants Inc. and teaches graduate industrial hygiene and occupational health classes for the Master’s program at UCLA.
