Jack Schlosser, a healthcare management veteran with more than four decades in the field, has been named Executive-in-Residence at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s UCLA Center for Healthcare Management for the 2022-23 academic year.

Dr. Jean Balgrosky’s career in health information systems and technology leadership and entrepreneurship spans 30 years as a chief information officer (CIO) in health care at Scripps Health in San Diego, Holy Cross Health System (Trinity Health System), and now MD Revolution. In addition, she is Founder of Bootstrap Venture Partners, investing in and nurturing innovative digital health information technology start-up companies.

Dr. Lu is an expert in the biopharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical economics.  He is the director of the UCLA Seminar on Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy.

Dr. Ronald Andersen is the Wasserman Professor Emeritus in the UCLA Departments of Health Policy and Management, and Sociology. Previously he chaired the Department of Heath Policy and Management at UCLA and was professor at the University of Chicago, serving for ten years as director of the Center for Health Administration Studies and the Graduate Program in Health Administration.

AS THE U.S. GRAPPLES with how to achieve universal access to quality primary health care, a Fielding School faculty member who has studied the experience of Brazil suggests there is much to be learned from Latin America’s largest country.

Dr. Penelope Fu, MD, MPH, FAMIA, FAAP, is VP/Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at City of Hope, and Adjunct Professor of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Most recently, she was CMIO and Division Chief and Fellowship Director, Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. She was also previously CMIO and CIO at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, one of the largest public health service delivery systems in the country.

Dr. Frederick J. Zimmerman is an economist with a background in the political economy of health and social policy. His research illuminates the intersection of economics and the determinants of health. 

Dr. Zimmerman has a particular interest in how economic structure—including poverty and inequality and housing markets—influence population health. Research topics have included the measurement of health equity; the effects of housing affordability on health; transportation and health; media use and child development; and the opportunity costs of medical spending.

Dr. Xi Zhu, PhD, is a Professor and the Paul Torrens Chair in Healthcare Management in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Dr. Zhu received his PhD in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on micro and macro organizational behaviors in healthcare delivery systems.

Dr. Laura Erskine is a Professor of Health Policy and Management, Director of the MHA Program, and Director of the UCLA Center for Healthcare Management. Her teaching interests are in the area of organizational behavior, leadership, and decision making. She uses real world examples and situations, experiential activities, field-based cases, and simulations to help students develop their decision-making and problem solving skills, hone their communication and interpersonal skills, apply theories and the concepts, and further their critical thinking skills.

Dr. Amy Wohl is an Epidemiologist who worked for the Los Angeles County (LAC) Department of Public Health (DPH) and the LAC Department of Health Services (DHS) for almost 30 years. She oversaw the Program Evaluation Unit in the LACDHS Office of Planning and Data Analytics where she conducted research and evaluation on health outcomes and service utilization for high-need Medi-Cal clients and DHS patients.
