Fostering a community of inclusion.

The Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) at the Fielding School of Public Health leads initiatives that promote goals and values at the core of the school's mission — fostering a community where all students, staff, and faculty can succeed and contribute; and preparing public health leaders equipped to meet the challenges of working in global and fast-evolving environments. Through wide-ranging efforts, the office strives to implement initiatives that support individual achievement while ensuring everyone could reach their full potential. These initiatives fall into four categories:

Pathways and Recruitment

The OIE works to create robust pathways for undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students into public health programs and careers. Through targeted efforts, OIE aims to strengthen the community at all levels by improving outreach, recruitment, and retention of talented students, faculty, and staff who can contribute to advancing public health knowledge and practice.

Community and Excellence

Fostering collaboration is central to how OIE promotes community by enhancing faculty, student, and staff ability to work effectively together and learn from different perspectives and experiences. OIE dedicates resources to building a culture where faculty, students, and staff can focus on achieving their academic and professional goals while contributing to a supportive learning environment.

Teaching and Development

Programming and skill-building opportunities are key ways OIE supports community members in developing capabilities for working effectively in varied settings and with different populations. OIE facilitates training, workshops, and educational initiatives that prepare public health professionals to serve communities and address complex health challenges.

Infrastructure and Support

Building sustainable systems is how OIE ensures everyone has the resources and support needed to succeed. OIE develops policies, practices, and programs that provide all community members with access to the tools and opportunities they need to excel in their academic and professional pursuits. Our office is committed to helping every member of the Fielding School of Public Health community achieve excellence. We believe that when talented people can contribute their skills and knowledge, our field of public health becomes more effective at addressing the health challenges facing communities worldwide.
