Fielding Public Health Scholarship Program

Fielding Public Health Scholarship Program (PHSP) logoIn partnership with HRSA, FSPH established the Public Health Scholarship Program (PHSP) to increase workforce capacity in public health systems and to decrease public health inequalities and health disparities. This training program is designed for first-year students who will enroll in a master's level program (MPH or MHA) in fall 2024. Priority will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds with demonstrated financial need and have demonstrated interest in and commitment to working with underserved populations.

  • PHSP for Full-Time Students in the MPH

    The scholarship will cover in-state tuition, student fees, and health insurance for fall 2024, winter 2025, and spring 2025 quarters for PHSP scholars. Professional fees (PDST) are not covered.

    Eligibility:

    • Incoming first-year MPH students matriculating fall 2024
    • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • California resident
    • Priority will be given to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or demonstrated financial need

    Committment:

    PHSP Scholars are required to complete an internship (field studies) with a state or local health department or organizations working with Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs). Scholars must also complete a set of training activities, such as participating in a weekend orientation, mentoring, and attending workshops. Please note other scholarships or tuition-remitting opportunities are not allowed.

    How to apply: No supplemental information needed. Please select the checkbox on your SOPHAS application to be considered for PHSP.

  • PHSP for Executive and Part-Time Students in MPH or MHA

    The scholarship will cover tuition for fall 2024, winter 2025, and spring 2025 quarters for PHSP scholars.

    Eligibility:

    • Incoming first-year MPH or MHA students matriculating fall 2024
    • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • Must be a current member of the public health workforce in a state or local agency or community based agency that serves Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs).
    • Priority will be given to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or demonstrated financial need

    Commitment:

    PHSP Scholars are required to complete a practice based experience with a state of local health department or organizations working with MUAs. Scholars also must complete training activities, such as a weekend orientation, mentoring, and attending workshops. Please note other scholarships or tuition-remitting opportunities are not allowed.

    How to apply: Submit a UCLA Graduate Admissions application to one of the programs listed below. All applications will be considered upon submission. 

    For MPH|HP applicants: Please mention in your personal statement that you would like to be considered for the PHSP scholarship and detail how you meet the eligibility requirements.
