ABC News | "Health officials tracking cruise ship passengers around the world for hantavirus"
ABC News interviewed Dr. Anne Rimoin, professor in the Department of Epidemiology, about the global response to a hantavirus outbreak.
ABC News interviewed Dr. Anne Rimoin, professor in the Department of Epidemiology, about the efforts of the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor passengers and crew of the cruise ship MV Hondius.
"The CDC team is going to come, they are going to triage everybody, (and) people will go the (U.S. biocontainment) center in Nebraska, they will be monitored for symptoms, they will be quarantined during this time," Rimoin said. "An infectious disease can be serious, in particular to the people who were exposed, and still not necessarily be a pandemic threat, and that's really important here. ... it's serious for the people there, but low risk for the general public."
