American Journal of Public Health | “COMMENTARY: AJPH as a trusted source for adult vaccination recommendations”
The American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) published a commentary co-authored by Dr. Robert Kim-Farley, professor in the departments of Epidemiology and Community Health Sciences, on a partnership between the AJPH and the American Academy of Family Physicians to help widely disseminate vaccination schedules for adults aged 19 years and older.
"Vaccination is one of public health’s most effective tools in preventing illness, hospitalization, disability, and death across the life course. For adults, recommended vaccines protect against invasive bacterial disease, respiratory infections, other viral illnesses, and a host of preventable sequelae that disproportionately affect older adults, pregnant individuals, individuals with chronic illness, and individuals who are immunocompromised. Yet adult vaccination in the United States has been marked by fragmented delivery, uneven uptake, and public uncertainty as trust in federal vaccine guidance has been strained. The need for credible, evidence-based adult vaccination recommendations has grown more urgent."
