UCLA Fielding School of Public Health alum Mia Giordano joins staff of UCLA Bixby Center

A UCLA Fielding School of Public Health alum has joined the professional staff at UCLA’s Bixby Center to Advance Sexual and Reproductive Health Equity, which supports research into issues ranging from maternal mortality to reproductive rights to HIV prevention.

Mia Giordano (MPH ’23) will serve as a project coordinator at UCLA Bixby, supporting programs, events, research, and operations, including supporting the Center’s Faculty Affiliate network and collaborative research efforts.

“Having completed a dual master's degree program at UCLA and then working in the Fielding School of Public Health for the past two years, I am excited to return to sexual and reproductive health work,” said Giordano, a double Bruin who also earned an MA in Latin American Studies ('24) at UCLA. “I look forward to contributing to the Bixby Center’s innovative and expanding efforts to advance sexual and reproductive health and equity.”

Giordano brings experience in reproductive health through research and field work in the U.S. and Guatemala and has deep expertise in the intersections of sexual and reproductive health, human rights, and history. For the past two years, she served as a project coordinator with UCLA Fielding’s Master of Data Science program, where her responsibilities included coordinating the MDSH Capstone program, and fostering and maintaining partnerships with organizations ranging from the UCLA Stein Eye Institute to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“Mia brings a strong operational background, fluency in Spanish, and experience supporting programs and initiatives across diverse communities,” said Dr. Jessica Gipson, professor in the UCLA Fielding Department of Community Health Sciences, who holds both the Fred H. Bixby Chair of Population and Reproductive Health and serves as director of the Bixby Center. “We are thrilled that she has joined the Center’s team.”
