Dr. Brewer is Professor of Epidemiology at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and of Medicine, and a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases, at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

He previously served as the Director of Global Health Programs at McGill University Medical School, and has published extensively on using analytic methods to optimize the population-based control of infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Dr. Brewer has served on advisory boards and review panels for numerous international and national organizations including the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research among others, and currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Consortium of Universities for Global Health.

Dr. Brewer holds a B.A. in history from Yale University, an M.D. from New York Medical College and an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health. He has extensive experience developing and overseeing training, education and service programs locally as well as in low- and middle-income countries around the world, and has received multiple teaching awards for his efforts.
