Dr. Ron Brookmeyer, distinguished professor in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics, co-authored new, peer-reviewed research published today that found blood tests could guide earlier treatment and monitoring decisions.

Curtis Wong, a first-year student in the master of public health program, has received the Abdelmonem A. Afifi Student Fellowship.

Dr. Soumyakanti Pan is a 2026 recipient of the Dean's Outstanding Student Award.

Peer-reviewed research study, led by UCLA Fielding faculty, also found more visits for conditions and symptoms associated with exposure to hazardous air pollutants.

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health celebrated 388 graduating students in a ceremony at Royce Hall. UCLA Chancellor Dr. Julio Frenk gave the commencement address.

The MDSH degree program currently has 92 students, with 39 in the class of 2026.

Dr. Catherine Sugar, professor in the Department of Biostatistics, has been elected to serve as vice chair for 2026-27 and is expected to serve as chair in 2027-28.

Dr. Marc Suchard, a physician and professor in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics, is being honored by the International Biometric Society.

Dr. Michele Guindani, professor in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics, will serve as interim chair of the department beginning on July 1, 2026.
