The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health offers a variety of scholarships and fellowships for incoming and continuing students. FSPH Newly Admitted Students Awards, Fellowships & Scholarships
Newly admitted students are automatically considered for most of the departmental and schoolwide awards for which they are eligible – there is nothing students need to do to ensure they are considered for these awards, except those noted as “student application.” All admitted FSPH students will be contacted by the Office of Student Services’ director of financial aid if scholarships become available for which they are eligible to apply. Note that eligibility requirements below are a guide only. Other eligibility requirements may apply.
Dean's Leadership Grants
Award Amount: $40,000 per award, distributed over two years
Awards Given: 1-6 awards annually per department
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department.
Eligibility: For incoming MPH students and based on academic and personal achievements, dedication to the field of public health, and financial need.
Fielding Fellowships
Award Amount: Up to $80,000 per year, distributed over two years
Awards Given: 5 fellowships, with recipients chosen every other year for each:
- The Andrew B. Fielding Fellowship in Mental Health
- The Preston J. Fielding Fellowship in Environmental Health
- The Jonathan E. Fielding Fellowship in Health Policy
- The Karin B. Fielding Fellowship in Maternal and Child Health
- The Jonathan E. and Karin B Fielding Family Fellowship in Nutrition
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this fellowship by their department.
Eligibility: Incoming master’s (MPH and MS) students, including those enrolled in a joint MPH degree program, based on dedication to the field of public health, financial need, and academic merit.
Eugene and Sallyann Fama Fellowships
Award Amount: Up to $36,000 per fellowship, distributed over two years
Awards Given: 5 awards annually
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department.
Eligibility: Demonstrated need, academic merit, and probability of making a significant impact in the student’s area of study.
Jean Balgrosky and Parker Hinshaw Fellowship
Award Amount: $20,000 per award, distributed in one year
Awards Given: 1 student per year
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department.
Eligibility: Public health students pursuing graduate degrees in any of the school’s departments who have demonstrated financial need.
Departmental Awards for Incoming Students
Award Amount: $3,000 to $20,000 per award
Awards Given: 3-10 awards annually per department
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department.
Eligibility: Incoming master’s and doctoral students in each department, based on academic merit and personal achievements, financial need, and dedication to public health.
Fielding Public Health Scholarship Program (PHSP)
Award Amount: In-state tuition and fees (excluding professional fees) for first year of MPH studies
Awards Given: Number of scholars varies by department
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department. Students may select a check box on their application to be considered.
Eligibility: Incoming first-year MPH students, based on their dedication to the field of public health and work in underserved areas, and financial need.

Fielding Public Health Scholarship Program (PHSP) for Executive (Online & Part-Time) Students
Award Amount: Tuition and fees for first year of MPH or MHA studies
Awards Given: Varies, number of scholars vary by program
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department.
Eligibility: Incoming first-year Executive MPH, MPH-HP, or MHA students who are current members of the public health workforce in a state or local agency or community based agency that serves Medically Underserved Areas.

Awards by Specific Topic Area or With Departmental Eligibility
Health Policy and Management Alumni Association Scholarship & Health Policy and Management Scholar Award
Award Amount: In-state tuition and fees for first year of MPH studies
Awards Given: Varies, from 1 to 2 per year
Application Process: Nomination by the Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) and review by the HPM Alumni Association Scholarship Committee. Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by the department.
Eligibility: Student pursuing an MPH degree in the Department of Health Policy and Management. Students who have demonstrated academic excellence, strong professional experience, leadership potential, and financial need.
Eleanor De Benedictis Award for Incoming Students
Award Amount: $10,000-$20,000 per year for one year
Awards Given: 1-2 awards annually
Application Process: Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by their department..
Eligibility: Financial support for trained nutritionists or dietitians who are pursuing graduate degrees in any of the school's departments.
Laurie and Bill Benenson Environmental Health Fellowship
Award Amount: $80,000 per award, distributed over two years
Awards Given: 1 student fellow every two years
Application Process: Nomination by the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. Students meeting the eligibility requirements will automatically be considered for this award by the department.
Eligibility: Students pursuing an MPH in Environmental Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health with a demonstrated interest in, and commitment to, working on a major environmental problem; academic achievement; financial need; demonstrated likelihood of working in a high need community; and demonstrated likelihood of making an impact.
Gerald F. Kominski Health Policy Fellowship
Award Amount: About $5,000 per year for up to two years
Awards Given: 1 student every year
Application Process: Nomination by the Department of Health Policy and Management. Students meeting the eligibility requirements will be automatically considered for this award by the department.
Eligibility: Student pursuing an MPH degree in Health Policy Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Students should have a demonstrated interest in health policy and be first-generation college graduates.
Levin-Gordon Health Policy Management Fellowship
Award Amount: $28,000 per fellowship, distributed over two years
Awards Given: 1 award every other year
Application Process: Nomination by the Department of Health Policy and Management. Students meeting the eligibility requirements will be automatically considered for this award by the department.
Eligibility: Student pursuing an MPH degree in Health Policy Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Students should have a demonstrated interest in health policy and be first-generation college graduates.
Awards & Scholarships for Continuing Students
Continuing students are eligible for schoolwide and departmental awards. Funding sources, amounts, and application processes vary by unit. Continuing students are notified of opportunities and usually require a special application for consideration.

Applied Practice Experience (APEx) Funding
FSPH offers limited funding support to students for unpaid or partially paid applied practice experiences. A centralized application form is generally made available to students in Winter Quarter of each year.
Undocumented Students: Financial Aid Opportunities
Undocumented students with AB 540 status qualify for many forms of financial aid, including exemption from nonresident tuition — meaning they are eligible for in-state tuition and fees — along with UC grants, certain scholarships, and private scholarships. Some UC campuses also offer institutional work-study and loans for undocumented students. (Students without AB 540 status are eligible only for non-UC scholarships.)
