KPCC-FM ("LAIst/The Brief") quoted UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s Dr. Yifang Zhu, professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, about her volunteer work supporting the re-opening of Palisades High School in Los Angeles after the 2025 wildfires.
“There's always chemicals you can detect, but I think we should really think through the lens … what is the additional level of risk?” said Zhu, whose daughter is a recent graduate of Palisades High; she concluded that if given the choice now, she would feel comfortable sending her back to the campus.
“There's no such thing as zero risk,” Zhu said. “Risk is very personal. Every family is … different.”
