The Washington Post interviewed UCLA Fielding's Dr. Yifang Zhu about her research that found carcinogens in homes left standing by the 2025 Los Angeles County wildfires.
“The unprecedented nature of a disaster like this has always revealed something that hasn’t been discovered in the past,” said Yifang Zhu, a professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, who is one of the authors on the air quality study.
Given the scale of the tragedy, it felt important to “make something good out of it,” she said of the large-scale research efforts.
