EFE quoted Dr. David Hayes-Bautista, professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, was about new research into how U.S. Latinos weathered the COVID-19 pandemic and the scale of their contributions to the U.S. economy. 

Co-authors of the 2026 U.S. Latino GDP Report include Hayes-Bautista and UCLA Fielding's Dr. Paul Hsu, assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology.

" ... Latinos generated $4.4 trillion for the United States economy in 2024, positioning this community as the fourth largest economy in the world, according to a report released Tuesday by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). 

'It's growth (that of the Latino Gross Domestic Product) was such that it broke all records in terms of economic dynamism,' said Professor David Hayes-Bautista, co-author of the report."
