A team at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is training thousands of individuals across the state in public health techniques and strategies, including contact tracing, case investigation, and administration, in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The training program represents the next stage in California’s state-wide response to the COVID-19 epidemic.

In an email today to the UCLA campus, Emily Carter, executive vice chancellor and provost at UCLA, announced that Ron Brookmeyer, interim dean and professor of biostatistics, will become dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, effective January 15.

FSPH faculty members Sander Greenland, Ronald Hays, Steve Horvath, Michael Jerrett, André Nel and Dr. Marc Suchard were included on the Web of Science Group annual list.

UCLA has received $27.2 million from the National Institutes of Health to spearhead the new phase of an initiative to enhance the diversity of the U.S.'s biomedical workforce. Ronald S. Brookmeyer, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health professor of biostatistics, has been appointed interim dean of the Fielding School. He will begin his term on November 1, 2018.
