UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s UCLA Center for Healthcare Management names first executive-in-residence
Attorney and ethics expert Glenna Shen to take on advisory role for UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s UCLA Center for Healthcare Management.
Glenna Shen, an attorney and ethics specialist in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, will serve as the first-ever “executive-in-residence” at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s UCLA Center for Healthcare Management for the 2021-22 academic year.
“Ms. Shen brings both diverse functional experience and a track record of effective stakeholder engagement to the UCLA Center for Healthcare Management and has made a tremendous impact on healthcare management,” said Dr. Laura Erskine, Fielding School professor of health policy and management and co-director of the Center for Healthcare Management. “We look forward to working with her to advance these partnerships and drive the necessary innovation to solve complex problems in creative ways.”
The UCLA Center for Healthcare Management, whose leadership also includes Dr. Leah Vriesman, Fielding School of Public Health professor of health policy and management, generates practical, relevant knowledge via evidence-based management scholarship by actively involving healthcare organizations as collaborative partners with academic faculty, researchers, and students.
The Center’s programs include the Paul Torrens Health Forum at UCLA, an established discussion series where practitioners and academics discuss timely public health issues affecting the industry, and the annual Healthcare Management Case Competition for graduate students from across the U.S. and internationally, among others.
Shen is currently the chief ethics and compliance officer at Seattle-based 98point6, a virtual primary care provider; previously, Shen held senior roles at Thousand Oaks-based Amgen Inc., in the legal, compliance, commercial and corporate affairs functions. A biology graduate of the University of Miami (FL), Shen earned her JD at the USC Gould School of Law and is a member of the California State Bar.
Shen is coordinating a multidisciplinary panel on aging for an April session of the Paul Torrens Health Forum, and will also be involved with the third annual Healthcare Management Case Competition, sponsored by UCLA Health.
“I am honored to be partnering with the Center for Healthcare Management and look forward to supporting the Center’s mission to unite, inspire, and enrich interdisciplinary leadership that progresses healthcare management,” Shen said. “The exchange of ideas between education and industry can yield novel solutions – which are what we need to address entrenched problems.”
